Cedar (Cedrus deodara) — seedling photo

Cedrus deodara

Description

A large evergreen conifer with a characteristic tiered crown.

Ecological value

A long-lived species suited to large parks and public spaces.

Care rules

  1. Planting the seedling correctly

Prepare a hole large enough for the root system to sit freely. Set the seedling so the root collar stays level with the soil, then firm the soil gently.

  2. Watering

Water generously right after planting. Regular watering is needed through the first season, especially in dry and hot periods.

  3. Protection from damage

Protect the seedling from mechanical damage, animals and strong wind. Use a stake and a protective guard where needed.

  4. Seasonal care

Periodically clear weeds around the stem, check the seedling’s condition, and carry out formative pruning when required.
